FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK
Dear students:
With the origin of life on the planet earth, man-a highly evolved species has gone through Stone Age, Bronze Age, Iron Age, middle age and ultimately entered in the industrial era by making huge research and technological advances. Say, right from discovering the fire about 4, 00,000 ago, inventing penicillin in 1928, making first electronic computer in 1943 and uncovering the human genome (1990-2003), there has been vast and fast increase in scientific information and knowledge during the last two decades or so. In fact, lot of emphasis is being given to research and technology in life sciences with specific focus on areas such as cloning and recombinant DNA technology, genetically modified organisms (GMO's), stem cell research and so on. The bioengineering is progressing from green revolution to gene revolution. To deal with the challenges of 21st century, learning vis-à-vis service to the present day diverse society through advancement of research and technology should be viewed as the most important investment that anyone should undertake.
With these facts, SUS group of institutes, Tangori, Mohali has started the College of Research and Technology in 2009 with three programmes viz., M.Sc. (Biotechnology and Microbiology) and B.Sc. (Biotechnology) after its affiliation to the Punjabi University, Patiala, which has been accredited as A grade university by NAAC. All these programmes have great employment potential and relevance in industry, agriculture, animal husbandry, health care (medical), environment and overall biodiversity concerns. The objectives behind these programmes in Life Sciences are to train the students in microbiological and biotechnological techniques. For this, the college has dedicated faculty to impart quality teaching, besides providing hand on training to the students in well equipped laboratories furnished with much needed infrastructure. Each student is given individual attention and all possible efforts are made to aware and motivate them that for their survival they will have to face cut throat competition during this fast growing century. Whereas, most of the students tend to be generally shy, yet they are encouraged to participate, explore, understand, analyze and interact on current scientific topics.
While welcoming you to the college, I sincerely hope that each student will stand benefitted not only for one's own academic and professional excellence but also for the growth of the mankind through service after completion of the degree. While wishing good luck, I would expect that the students will make positive and critical contribution to this newly established college. Nothing succeeds like success and I wish that all our students earn their degrees through sheer hard work and spread the scientific knowledge to get rid this humanity from superstitions.
